ITS PROXIMITY TO THE SEA is one of the most immediately striking things about Shangri La ' s Le Touessrok , built in a white-washed , almost Mediterranean style but with Mauritian roofs and interior . The resort is built on the mainland in two wings either side of the main reception , with the restaurants and swimming pool area , and on nearby Frangipani Island , which is connected by a spectacular wooden bridge . There are 200 rooms and suites . In the Hibiscus and Coral wings , accommodation is light and airy with views of the sea from anywhere in the room or bathroom . Throughout the interior there are subtle touches of local flavour such as decorative carved wooden screens , vertical wood shutters and rich colours and textures . Crisp white linens contrast the colourful cashmere bed throws and pillows . There are three new villas , each with three bedrooms and private gardens , a swimming pool and terrace , as well as an elegant and spacious living and dining area . There are numerous activities available at Shangri La ' s Le Touessrok , from tennis to water sports , kids ’ and teens ’ clubs and a great range of dining options . The buffet breakfast is served in the main restaurant , spread over three levels with views over the pool and the beach . In the evening , dinner is served here , with cuisine from nine countries presented in eight show kitchens . There are two other à la carte restaurants to choose from . You could opt for Safran , which serves timeless Indian recipes using the finest ingredients available , or Barlen ’ s Restaurant , where contemporary east-meets-west dishes are served against the backdrop of an exceptional show-kitchen . The size of the resort offers seclusion combined with a liberating feeling of space . A great bonus is the two islands reached by boat , Ilot Mangénie , exclusive to guests , and Ile aux Cerfs . Ilot Mangénie is a delight ; you step off the hotel boat onto the jetty and are greeted by a fresh , cold towel . Sun loungers are ready with towels on the soft white sand . There is a restaurant for lunch , a bar and a beach bar service offering drinks and snacks . Ile aux Cerfs is the base for the resort ' s boat house and water sports ; it is reached by private boat on a regular basis . There is also public access to this island and it is generally much livelier , with a range of stalls , restaurants and bars . Shangri La ' s Le Touessrok is ideal for couples and families wanting a quality ambience , an excellent range of activities and superb service .
