ONE OF SRI LANKA ’ S HIDDEN GEMS , the Kandy House is a beautiful Walauwa mansion set in tropical surroundings , four miles from the centre of Kandy . Built in 1804 , the Kandy House has been sensitively restored to blend traditional Kandyan architecture with Dutch colonial furniture and modern design . Luxurious fabrics , relaxing sofas and beautifully appointed bathrooms combine to create an atmosphere of sophisticated comfort . Most of the rooms centre around the serene inner courtyard that is central to the grand Walauwa design . The eight bedrooms take their names from butterflies endemic to the Kandy foothills , each very individual in space and style . Two of the more spacious Ultra Deluxe rooms open onto a wide veranda that traces around the house almost in its entirety , dotted with chaise longues , reading chairs and antiques .
