THE ARK IS AN ISOLATED JUNGLE hideaway offering a one-of-a-kind experience of rural Sri Lanka , just 11 miles inland from Bentota . In the midst of a 40 acre rubber estate in Mathugama , where the rubber plantations end and the rainforest begins , this boutique hotel is a magnificent construction above the treetops . Asymmetrical and abstract , the contemporary structure forms an elevated living platform high above the trees , constructed out of wood and metal . Taking inspiration from ‘ watch-huts ’ - which provide a look-out post for farmers to survey their livestock - the views are incredible , including the terraced farmland and distant hills . The property is available on an exclusive basis for single parties , made unique and intimate by the openair lounge area , off of which three guestrooms are accessible .
