TRAVELLING THERE By car The drive from Calais takes around 7 hours , so we recommend at least one stop en route to make the journey more comfortable . Perhaps go via Champagne , or spend a couple of nights in Paris . By air The closest airport is Aulnat , located in Clermont- Ferrand By Eurostar and TGV Take the Eurostar to Paris and collect a hire-car . Alternatively , take the TGV from Paris Bercy to Clermont-Ferrand -- it would be beneficial , though , to have a hire-car once in the Auvergne .
