Rail holidays within Italy
Train is often the most time efficient , convenient and relaxing way of getting around Italy . Large distances can be covered in relatively short times . Comfortable high speed trains operated by Trenitalia and Thello cover the routes between most major cities . As an example , Venice to Naples can be covered in just over five hours , and Venice to Florence in two hours . We can arrange first or second class tickets and book sleeper routes too , such as the overnight Rome to Sicily service .
Major high speed routes include Turin – Milan – Bologna – Florence – Rome – Naples Venice – Verona – Milan – Turin Venice – Bologna – Florence – Rome – Naples
First class prices for these routes usually vary from between £ 50 to £ 100 per person .
There are also a number of smaller lines something very scenic , such as the journey from Milan to Tirano on the Swiss border .

Venice

1 . Venice , Florence and Rome Fly from the UK to Venice . Spend three nights in each of Venice , Florence and Rome . Travel between them by train . Example timings – Venice 11.25 Florence 13.30 ; Florence 11.08 Rome 12.40 . Fly from Rome back to the UK . This combination doesn ’ t involve any long journeys and makes for an ideal introduction to Italy ’ s beautiful cities .
Positano on the Amalfi Coast
2 . Venice and the Amalfi Coast Fly from the UK to Venice . Spend three nights in Venice , and then travel on to Naples by train where you can pick up a hire car and drive to Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast . This is a great combination in spring or autumn when Venice may be quite cool and the Amalfi coast a lot warmer . Following a stay of five nights , return your car to Naples airport and fly home .
3 . Rome and Sicily Fly from the UK to Rome . Spend three nights exploring Rome . Next , catch the train from Rome to Taormina or elsewhere on Sicily where you can spend four days or so before flying back to the UK . Example timing – Rome 11.26 Taormina 20.43 . The journey from Rome to Taormina by train is an interesting one , with the train going on a ferry to make the crossing onto Sicily .
